Can you please write a blog entry that spells out clearly what the inquiry would investigate and then what the inquiry would report on? There are so many facets to the issue of missing and murdered women that unless the inquiry is focused it may never end.

Also, what would be your ideal outcome of the inquiry? What are the ways that you see how would a paper report solve the problems that are being encountered by First Nations (or all?) Canadian women?

Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8917573032949953963.post-57750385878355142462015-04-12T09:28:28.485-07:002015-04-12T09:28:28.485-07:00Thank-you, your commentary on the inaccuracy of th...Thank-you, your commentary on the inaccuracy of the RCMP's statistics when it comes to the "Aboriginal" identity of victims and offenders, and some of the reasons for this, were vastly enlightening. Their statistics, apart from being just on the "solved" (whatever that means) homicides, does not particularly bolster Minister Valcourt's point that the violence and death toll upon indigenous women is due to the "moral failings" or however he put it, of indigenous men. His obligations to put measures in place to decrease family violence, not the opposite, however, apply as well.Arachne646https://www.blogger.com/profile/14855631604555443584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8917573032949953963.post-46112492604533538832015-04-11T09:24:36.844-07:002015-04-11T09:24:36.844-07:00Global statistics clearly show that women are most...Global statistics clearly show that women are most often (95%) of the time murdered by men they know. 86% are sexually assaulted by men they know and most in their own homes. So what needs to happen is we need better systems (besides police intervention) of protecting women in their homes and against male violence and aggression. In this case, that should involve a joint effort between Indigenous leadership (Chiefs, Clan mothers, Elders), Canadian law enforcement AND women's orgs. We live in a global patriarchy that is extremely violent so we also need the programs and processes to be developed by women for women and children.
